This is a remarkably tight urban site set in the backwaters of a very desirable west London residential area overlooked by existing, well designed 19th century terraced housing. Project executed while Directors of Harper Downie Ltd.
The solution is to respect the rights of light and the sense of overlooking issues and set the base level of the 9 houses down beneath grade. This achieves off street, naturally ventilated car parking, while allowing the living areas of the villas to be raised in a ‘piano nobile’. A considerable amount of thought has been given to the layout of the development, taking into account neighbourly constraints and the local urban grain.
